Proxmox Hypervisor

In November it was decided amongst the IT guys that We needed some form of hypervisor to consolidate the quickly growing skynet (Computers hanging from the ceiling). We had an HP DL380 Gen 1 4u server donated to use. It got set up but the power draw was way to much and it was ungodly loud. we pieced together a parts list for a new server and submitted it to our treasurer. after getting the go ahead parts were purchased from Ebay/Newegg and it was built and put into service.

• it sports;

- A Supermicro X8DTI-f motherboard

- 2x intel Xeon X5670

- 48gb of ECC DDR3 1600

- 3x AMD r7 SSDs in MDADM raid 0

- and a teamed gigabit link to the network

It currently runs Proxmox 4.4 which is based on Debian Jessie

We do not have a subscription so we only get security and testing updates

Virtual Machine guide lines

Please keep in mind that this is a shared resource and is here for everyones’ use. The VM service is not for your permanent personal computing needs or off site back up. Also remember that all traffic is monitored.

• Always contact an administrator before creating a new VM or altering an existing VM.

• Do not unnecessarily over provision resources for your VM, This means CPU/RAM/HDD size.

• It is encouraged that you encrypt any sensitive information you may be working on.

• Backup all important data to your own storage devices.
