Planning & Communication Director Responsibilities
Planning
- Work to understand, inform, and encourage discussion about near-term, medium-term, and long-term planning of the space
- Identify, document, and plan for member needs and wants; keep board abreast
- Help set realistic goals and implementation strategies with various programs
- Update bi-laws and other critical documents as needed
- Keep an eye on growth and possible solutions for any arising issues
- Take lead and work with other board members on space usage issues and policy
- Work on long term policy issues for benefit of space
- Contribute meaningfully to acquisitions list with large item research as needed
- Research other makerspaces and organizations that may help hackrva become better
- Prepare an end of year summary to be posted on wiki
- Write 2 grant proposals per year
- Create a strategy for potential move to new building (2016-2017 specific)
- Identify teachers, schedule, and assist as needed for 12 workshops per year (this duty until a director of education or a coordinator can be placed)
Communications
- Help maintain various documentation for space as needed
- Assist with long form writing as needed and in support of other board members as needed (such as grants, press releases, project documentation)
- Create 1 new blog post per month on hackrva main page
- Create 15 new blog posts on project blog per year
- Encourage use of project blog
- Create and maintain tools for project and event documentation
- Regularly upload photos to website(s)
- Regularly upload videos to website(s)
- Encourage use of the wiki, project blog, and other by members. Make sure they have access.
- Update wiki as needed by board
- Review and update overall wiki once a year
- Hold and support wiki and documentation day once a year
- Create and improve signage at space
- Label things as needed
- Review website overall twice a year
- Create means of and encourage intercommunication between members of space (specifically – keep website "about" page relevant, create a "member business owners" page)
- Conduct advertising for hackrva as needed (google ads, craigslist)
